The Museum

There is much to discover: a shoemaking workshop from the early 20th century in the large attic space, sculptures by Ignaz Günther and contemporary sculptors, as well as paintings of the Munich School. A highlight for both children and adults is our Zugspitze exhibition with an explorer booklet for summit climbers, which introduces mountaineering and the history of the Zugspitze. A Michael Ende corner invites visitors to linger. In the cinema room, you can choose from a wide selection of films.

The museum sees itself as a living museum in motion – this is reflected not only in its events and special exhibitions, but also in its ongoing engagement with its own collection and the development of new concepts. Be curious! We look forward to your visit.

The Museum

It presents characteristic and surprising aspects, cultural history, art, and traditions of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district, with the aim of preserving knowledge about the region and its people. It is one of the most important regional museums of cultural history in Bavaria.
